Car Rental in Bali > Places of Interest > Nusa Penida Bali

Nusa Penida is a small island located at the south side of Semarapura city, Klungkung. There are some places of interest for the tourist to enjoy the island. And mostly, for water sports. The water sports at Nusa Penida is the most interesting attraction. Also, there are some beautiful coral reef and fishes in Nusa Penida.

NUSA PENIDA: STARTED FROM SANUR HARBOR

Sanur harbour goes to Nusa Penida by fast boat

Trip to Nusa Penida can be started from Sanur harbor. This is the easiest-general way. Actually there is another way, which is from Padangbai harbor, but this article is focusing through out Sanur harbor.

The journey is began from Sanur harbor. To reach Nusa Penida Island, we can use a fast boat. In Sanur harbor there are a lot fast boat companies that can sailing you to Nusa Penida. Just to mention a few, some of the fast boat company name is Eka Jaya Fast Boat, Blue Water Express Fast Boat, Arjuna Fast Boat, etc.

We can purchase the Nusa Penida fast boat tickets offline, directly at Sanur harbor. Or you can just book them online provided by some fast boat Nusa Penida ticket booking website.

To enter the harbor area, we must already have a ticket and a cruise marker necklace, which we receive when purchasing the ticket. At the harbor, we will follow the instructions from the staff, then proceed with a ticket check.

After the ticket check, we will enjoy the beautiful sea view as you walk towards the boat.

Each boat accommodates around 78 passengers. When the boat is moving, it is better to close the windows, as sea spray can splash in when the boat speeds up.

We will enjoy a 30-50 minute journey with stunning ocean views. The closer you get to the island, the more curious you become.

ARRIVED IN NUSA PENIDA

Upon arriving at Nusa Penida's Toyapakeh Harbor, you will notice a different atmosphere compared to Sanur Harbor, as the construction of this harbor is not yet complete.

If you have not booked a vehicle or transportation to explore the island, there are many services near the harbor offering motorcycle and car rentals with drivers. But of course it is highly advised to book it in advance. Also highly advises to just rent the car with driver included as the road conditions there in Nusa Penida is not good.

Before exploring the island, it is advised you find for food and drinks in the market area after leaving the harbor area, as there are not many shops during the journey around the island.

On the way to the series of beaches on Nusa Penida Island, you will enjoy winding roads with views of hills and forests.

NUSA PENIDA BEACHES

Angels Billabong Beach

Angels Billabong Nusa Penida best beach in Penida

This beach is contiguous with the Broken Beach. Its about 45 minutes drive to reach the beach from the harbor.

The road to this beach still has some rocky sections, so you need to be wary.

Once you reach the beach area, you only need to pay for parking to enter. You will be welcomed by simple stalls and a restaurant with ocean views from the high cliff. It will surely make you want to keep your camera always on.

Every corner of the area is stunning and worth capturing. However, we should be wary, don't close the cliff's edge, as it is dangerous due to the strong winds at the top.

The sound of the waves crashing against the cliff walls and the wind blowing will mesmerize you, even before you reach Angel Billabong Beach. The beach itself is still ahead.

Before enjoying Angels Billabong Beach, don’t miss the chance to take photos among the beautiful rocks with the backdrop of the ocean and the sky.

The rock walls surrounding the Angel Billabong pool have very unique contours. The occasional waves crashing against the rocks will make your photos even more dramatic. Many tourists are willing to climb down to the rock area for photos.

When you reach Angel Billabong Beach, you will see how beautiful it is. The water is crystal clear, and this place is widely known among tourists as Angel's Billabong.

Perhaps the person who first named this place was so amazed by the beauty of this pool and thought it was perfect for fairies to bathe in.

Because it is quite dangerous to climb down to the beach, we can only enjoy the beach from the top of the cliff, but it is still unforgettable.

As you walk back, following the cliff, you will find a row of stalls selling light snacks like grilled corn, coconut ice, ice cream, souvenirs, and photo spots.

Continue walking a bit up and down to reach Broken Beach. Although it is about 500 meters away, it does not feel far because of the beautiful scenery.

Broken Beach

The second beach is Broken Beach, also known as Pasih Uug Beach. It is called Broken Beach because this beach was formed due to the collapse of part of the cliff. From the collapsed cliff, a section formed an arch bordering the sea.

Since this beach can only be enjoyed from the cliff side, at first, we thought it looked like a lake near the beach. But after seeing the beach's sandy side, we realized how unique this beach is.

Using a drone in this location will provide stunning results. However, do not let your drone pass through the arch, as many drones there have failed to return.

The sea water looks clear, with a blue-green hue, with calmer waves. Enjoy the unique sight of the sea water entering through the arch and creating waves on the beach side.

After enjoying Broken Beach, you can also enjoy the ocean from the green cliff stretches.

Several fast boats heading to Nusa Lembongan add to the exoticism of this beach area. On the green grass stretches, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery accompanied by the sound of the wind and waves.

Broken Beach and Angels Billabong have become iconic destinations in Nusa Penida. If you are visiting the island for the first time, these places should be a priority that you would not want to miss.

Besides these two beaches, there’s also Kelingking Beach, dont miss this beach.

Kelingking Beach

Pantai Kelingking Nusa Penida

Kelingking Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Nusa Penida Island, and probably the most stunning beach in Bali in the wild beach category. Kelingking means 'pinkie - little finger'.

Even if you do not interested in going down to the beach, walk along the narrow, winding path that descends along the spine for a few meters. It is a quieter spot to enjoy panoramic views and take better photos.

Kelingking Beach cliffs are about 150 meters high, so you can imagine the effort it takes to reach the beach. Based on tourists' experiences, it takes around 20-30 minutes to descend the cliff to the beach.

The main attraction of Kelingking Beach is the stunning view from the cliff top. While the shoreline has magnificent cliffs, this place is truly extraordinary.

After descending, you will be greeted with a breathtaking beach. Although the temptation to swim might be strong, be wary of the strong waves and currents that can pull you out to sea.

If you plan to hike down the cliff to the beach (which I highly recommend!), please be careful. Bring plenty of water to stay hydrated, wear a hat to prevent heatstroke, and most importantly, wear appropriate footwear.

After enjoying the beauty of Kelingking Beach, you can enjoy various foods on the way out. Many local restaurants have opened shops on the beach, offering a variety of refreshing drinks like fresh coconut milk, fruit juice, and popular Indonesian dishes like fried rice and fried noodles.

Tips when visiting Nusa Penida:

First, Be Careful on the Roads

One of the things we liked the least about Nusa Penida is the road infrastructure, which has not received special attention from the government. So almost all the roads leading to tourist spots on Nusa Penida are in poor condition.

If you are not used to riding a motorcycle, we strongly advise against driving yourself in Nusa Penida.

Second, Download Google Maps Offline

The signal from mobile operators is still somewhat lacking in several remote spots in Nusa Penida. It is a good idea to download Offline Google Maps for the Nusa Penida area before going there! Dont get lost on this island.

Third, Avoid National Holidays and Weekends

Like most other tourist spots in Bali, Nusa Penida and Angels Billabong are also flooded with local and international tourists during holidays.

Fourth, Wear Proper Shoes, Especially When Heading to Kelingking Beach

Fifth, Bring Enough Drinking Water

To keep your body hydrated, it's better to always have drinking water on hand during every trip to the beach.

Well, enough with the Nusa Penida Bali. Now, just enjoy it!
