The temple is situated on the foot of Agung Mountain, the highest mountain in Bali. Besakih temple is a complex of temple. Inside the temple there are about 23 other smaller temple. The biggest and most important one is Pura Penataran Agung.

There is no exact information regarding the first history of this Besakih temple, but some of the archeology stuffs inside the temple showed that this place was a ceremony place for the Hindu at least since year 1284. Until 15th century the temple then an official temple of Gelgel dynasty.

If you are standing inside the complex of these temples, the view is so spectacular. With the background of Agung Mountain it is one of the best panorama that must be pictured as well in the tourist pocket cameras. The ticket entrance to visit the temple is also quiet cheap, around IDR 5.000 children – IDR 10.000 adult.

It would be more fun for you when visiting the temple, if at the same time there is a celebration of one the event of Balinese calendar, held right inside the temple. The festive is so glamour, which the prayers coming in a big group, wearing the colourful of clothes, and not forget for the fruits above their heads.

If you want to go to Besakih temple, it is not recommended to go there by a public transportation. You must bring your own vehicle such as a car or a bike. Car rental Bali or motor bike rental is the best choice for you to go there, exploring a small part of Bali island. The best time of recommendation to cvisiting the temple is at 8AM.
